Originally from Lafayette, Louisiana, Lynn Sanders now resides in Alexandria where she is a resident artist at River Oaks Square Arts Center. Setting the brush aside she uses unconventional tools and primarily acrylic medium to create work that has a rhythmic energy with a visual language uniquely her own.
“My work is abstract expressionistic - what you see on the canvas is what is going on in my life. These emotions are reflected in swaths of paint that are both arbitrary and intended.”
The works are born out of impatience; my approach is cerebral and intuitive. I approach a blank canvas without pre-conceived notions. This allows me to experiment with colors following the path the paint directs me. The resulting colors and textures create the depth of the composition.
My inspiration is found in everyday life, less from what I visually see and more from my emotions. The colors, textures and depth of the painting are all reflections my emotions at the time I create the piece. The vibrant colors and abstract compositions reflect the brighter emotions while the soothing hues of the landscapes tell a story of reflection. Through this visual language, I tell a story of feelings in a composition open to interpretation by the viewer.
